Chapter description

Tigerheart frets how to break the news to Dovewing and wonders if their kits are big enough for the journey home. He decides to join Fierce and her scavenging patrol to bid time, but Dovewing chooses to join their patrol as well. While out in the city, Tigerheart tells Dovewing that they need to talk. He tells her that Spire had a vision indicating that Tigerheart needs to return to ShadowClan, and Tigerheart apologizes to Dovewing for abandoning her and their kits. However, Dovewing agrees that the kits are ready for the journey back to the lake, especially since Shadowkit had a dream of Dovewing's sister Ivypool with a litter of kits. Wanting to meet her sister's kin, Dovewing agrees that their kits need to be with the Clans. However, the two disagree which Clan their kits should join, prompting Dovewing to briefly wonder if Tigerheart will take them away. Realizing his mistake, Tigerheart apologizes, and they agree the kits can make the decision for themselves once they arrive home.

Tigerheart and Dovewing inform Fierce and the guardian cats that they must return home. Shadowkit, Pouncekit, and Lightkit are eager to become warriors. While Mittens and Rascal are perplexed why they are leaving because of Spire's dream, Blaze, Ant, and Cinnamon decide to join them. Spire also decides to go with them, insisting it is important that he makes the journey also. While Tigerheart wonders what ShadowClan will say if he returns with several strangers, Dovewing believes their kits will be safer with their new companions to help. With the patrol ready to leave, Tigerheart guides them to the station where he first arrived in the city.
