Chapter description[]
- Earth thinks about how he is still a kit, starting to eat his shrew. He thinks about Moonlight, Hawk and Petal, and at last Stream, and this causes him to lose his appetite. Earth wonders why the Sisters had to send him away, and calls for Stream, apologizing for his death. He asks Haze, Sunrise, Ice, and Stream to greet him, but he could hear nothing. The yellow cat begs Stream again to say hello to him, but after all he can hear is silence, Earth retreats back to his den.
- In the morning, Earth leaves the den and smells the air, recognizing cat scent. Earth realizes they are the Sisters, and thinks they let Ice rest for a while, admitting to himself he is following them even though he isn't allowed to. He scents monsters on a Thunderpath, and hides to avoid being spotted. The tom realizes that Moonlight had led the Sisters across the Thunderpath, and that he'll have to cross it to follow them. Earth recalls what his mother had taught him about crossing Thunderpaths, and does so. As he does, the growling of a monster has him running faster than he has ever done before. Safely across the other side, he collapses on the grass, scared by the fact he had almost been killed. As he recovers, Earth picks up the Sisters' scent again, and continues to track them, hoping they won't send him away.
