Hey everyone!

Results[]

Back in March, we hosted our annual feedback questionnaire. I shared the results with the rest of staff the other day, so I wanted to share a summarized version for our editors. We had 73 total responses, an increase from 70 from last year, which is excellent!

Overall, we seem to be doing a great job:

  • 49.3% of respondents reported their experiences on the Warriors Wiki a 4/5
  • 44.4% of respondents reported that they seek spoilers for new releases, and 48.6% reported that they believe it is important for the wiki's content to be updated as soon as possible.

Some folks specifically cited our {{BookSpoiler}} template as being especially helpful, though others noted that the right rail content (such as popular pages or new images) can accidentally spoil those not looking for new content.

We had a specific question about our ongoing pre-death chararts in character infobox experience. As a refresher, we are currently experimenting with refraining from adding StarClan, Dark Forest, ghost, etc chararts in a character's infobox until after the current arc ends (or six months for SEs, graphic novels, and novella). This was based upon feedback from the previous survey, as some folks thought they were too spoiler for new releases.

"We've been experimenting with limiting post-death images in the infobox for recently deceased characters based upon feedback in the past survey. These include characters such as Mistystar, Curlfeather, Jayclaw, Rowankit, etc. Their afterlife images will be added once the current arc ends. What are your thoughts about this project so far?" (N=71)

Negative Indifferent Positive
22.6% 29.6% 47.9%

In the short answer section, some folks think it's pointless or inconsistent, while others appreciate how helpful this is. As a reminder, the wiki will revisit this experiment after A Starless Clan ends, though these surveys are helpful for us to see what our readers think.

We're also running the same question for a larger sample size over on our Twitter: https://twitter.com/warriorswiki/status/1780608530107466212

A few miscellaneous statistics about our content:

  • 63.9% of respondents greatly enjoyed our "Newest release" section on our main page
  • The top four most important/useful sections on character articles were the short summary (76.4%), trivia (65.3%), official artwork (62.5%), and personality and relationships (63.9%). The lowest were merchandise (12.5%), external links (15.3%), and ceremonies (27.8%).
    • The entire ranking was short summary <- trivia <- official artwork <- personality & relationships <- family & family trees <- character infobox <- detailed description (if applicable) <- appearances <- pixel artwork <- leadership info (if applicable) <- killed victims <- ceremonies <- external links <- merchandise
  • The top three most important/useful sections on book articles were the allegiances (80.8%), character lists (54.8%), and artwork subpages (50.7%).
    • The entire ranking was allegiances <- character lists <- artwork subpages <- mistakes <- cliffnotes <- chapter subpages <- gallery <- publication history <- external links

I'm personally glad to see that folks are enjoying our artwork subpages as these were originally created to help declutter our images haha. They can also be found in our newest release under "resources" in the top nav, and by searching for "Artwork."

When asked which options readers would like to see on the wiki to encourage them to edit, a majority of participants asked for clearly defined style guide and policies (80.3%). I know that we've created some new policies in the past, such as the Warriors Wiki:Beginner's Guide, but this seems to be consistent answer for this question for the past few surveys. I've been fiddling with a new manual of style, but if anyone has any suggestions, let me know. This might also be a Twitter question too. Folks also favored welcome messages, but I think might be an upcoming thing from Fandom (or is that just message walls - can't remember).

Now what[]

Overall, the responses from our survey was very positive, which is a good thing! So what should we do now? It's good to know that we are doing well, though we can always improve, as indicated by these results. Here are some suggestions/recommendations that I have:

  • Improve policy updates. The most fun of the bunch, but this has been a consistent answer for the past few surveys regarding what folks want to see. One of my initiatives when I first became admin was to improve our policies, which was mostly consistent of internal guidelines and revamping the staff promotion process. We did create the Warriors Wiki:Beginner's Guide and update our main page, though I think our readers are wanting more. This might be brought forward to Twitter for direct feedback.
  • Pre-death images in character infoboxes update. It's good to see that folks are mostly enjoying this experiment. Again, we as a wiki will revisit this sometime early next year after Star is released.
  • Personality and relationship sections. Out of the top four sections noted by our readers for our character pages, this one is one that we are still lacking in. Last year, myself and a few others made sure that our trivia sections were properly cited with backup links and/or screenshots following the previous survey. P&R sections seem to be our next area of focus, though I'm glad to see a few users jumping into working on those. I think even if we have a few sentences or two, those should work.
  • Official artwork. Official artwork continues to be a trend in our surveys, especially with the (accidental) popularity of our artwork subpages. This further solidifies that we should make sure to keep working on these for future releases. Recently, we added some to our main arc infoboxes.
  • A few miscellaneous ideas. A few folks mentioned a chronological detailed history section, which is something we have been toying with for the past few years. It would be a big project, but it is something to keep in mind. Some folks suggested foreign language translations for characters, which is something we've been toying with in the past as well. But it's good to see interest in these ideas! Otherwise they might not be done.

Overall, that's what we got from the survey. I am very pleased that it was all constructive feedback and recommendations. I firmly believes this is how we can improve, though I now open the floor to you guys. Any thoughts? What stands out to you the most here? Any suggestions or ideas - we'd love to hear them.
