Re:

Hi there, Ruefrost! Thanks for pointing that wiki out to me- sadly, we can't take any real action against them. The most we're allowed to do is ask them to take down and delete the images. I wish we could do more, because people claim those images as theirs when they upload them, and it's not right. Jayce Atlas falls  ( 21:00, 10/25/2014 ) </span>

Rubblepaw

Hey! I just thought I'd warn you that Rubblepaw already has an apprentice image, but it isn't being used. Meaning not only is there a reason for its lack of use, but if we did decide to use it, we'd probably end up using that one. So a new one being posted would probably end up declined. Signature

Hi I'm just popping in to let you know that your current signature is violating the signature policy, since you have to include a link to your talk page and have 5 words or less (not including your username). I suggest you get this changed ASAP. Thank you. Tiger Sunny days 17:20, January 3, 2015 (UTC)

Hey

Hey! So what do you want to start with? Sun Man, that man is nonstop♣18:08 Mon Dec 28

Okay! So, solid cats are indeed a complete pain, since they have nothing to distract from hard-edged or leaking shading (barring images that have texture). I actually usually use smudged shading (like Cloudberry's StarClan image), and I had over a week of comments that only pertained to the shading being too rough with that one. Depending on the image, you can either use smudged shading, or you can take advantage of Photoshop's actually decent blur tool (like Harepounce's StarClan image), which eliminates the need for the constant smoothing that is often requested with smudged shading. The advantage to shading a solid-colored cat though is that it is easier to show shading depth without getting told as often to lighten the shading. It gets a lot easier when the image has texture, as people will have their attention paid more to the texture than the shading.

Pick a blank and do a solid-colored cat, and link it to me. We'll leave smudged shading to its own lesson if you want, otherwise you can use it if it's easier for you (: Sun Man, that man is nonstop♣18:42 Mon Dec 28

Those look pretty good, especially the smudged one! Sorry about how long it took me to respond, had to go get apartment stuff yesterday ^.^; Anyways, the biggest issue I can see people pointing out would be defining the light on the tail with the smudged shading, but I will explain more about how to work with that more later. The other thing that might be pointed out is the shading causing the image to look too gray, but if that is the case, messing with opacity and tints can fix it easily. Also with the blurred, you would most likely be told to smooth the darker area on the haunch. I rarely use the blur tool because of this as I personally have some difficulty smoothing with it without making it overblurred lol. Sun Man, that man is nonstop♣14:31 Tue Dec 29

They look very good! Is there any more work you want to do with solid color or do you want to move on to something else? I am so so so sorry for taking so long to reply. I have been limited to mobile the past few days and the site acts up on my phone -__- That and I am moving back to campus for spring semester on Sunday so I have been getting ready for that. Smudged Shading

So smudged shading is a kind of weird thing to get used to. People do this in different ways that work best for them, so this is just my personal preference for doing this. I use a 1 px soft brush on about 75-90% strength depending on the image and the effect I am trying to get with the shading. Using this brush, smudge the shading in a circular motion with the flow of the fur. It can wind up rather time consuming, but keep repeating this until you get the desired look of the shading. Another method I have seen (but personally never tried) is to use a 5 px brush on a lower setting (40-55%) and use it somewhat like a blur tool to add a softer look than using the 1 px brush. The easiest way to smooth it is to have the image zoomed in at 400-500% and after you finish an area zooming back out to look at the result and tweaking from there. Smudged shading on solid colors is a bit more time consuming, as you will have to spend a lot of time smoothing and tweaking, but on patterned cats it can work beautifully and slightly rougher shading can be used as texture and makes shading depth more defined without the need for a large amount of layers dedicated to only adding shading depth. You can also blur the edges of the shading, and then smudging the shading. I personally have found this to be the easiest way to do smudged shading on a solid cat, but I understand that this may seem a bit pointless.

Try a tabby, any color, any blank. Feel free to mess around with the way you smudge the shading, and try whatever strength on the tool you want. There is not real set-in-stone way to do it Sun Man, that man is nonstop♣19:22 Fri Jan 8

Re:

I'm gonna need you to revert to a previous version of your personal image or upload a new version; if I use the current version (the deputies), it'll just change whenever you reupload. Direct linking requires the image to be archived.

The medicine cats are up though; just let me know when you've fixed up the deputies and I'll do that for you. Berry Midnight Monster's Parade! 10:15 Sat Jan 9

Hey, I was wondering if you still had Crowfrost star image? I'm tweaking the chin on it and it'd be helpful to have it. Ellie  life is an illusion 01:47, February 25, 2019 (UTC)

Re: Texture

Hey, I'm so glad you like my art! For textures, I do a lot of textured shading along with regular textures. I use Firealpaca, and for textured shading, I start with blured shading, then use the paintbrush tool on low opacity with a large brush to smooth it out, and then use short strokes with the same tool, but a much smaller brush, along the edge of the shading to replicate the direction of the fur.

For classic texure, I have a custom brush called Flat color which is basically just a larger pen tool. Pen pressure is key here: I'll do long, light strokes to replicate the direction of the fur, but put very little pressure on the tablet. I don't blur it, because then the cripsness of the lines is lost.

For direction you just kind of need to have a sense of how the fur flows on different parts of the body. Throughout the whole body, the direction is constantly changing, so its not realistic to have one direction of texture throughout the entire image. It curves a lot around where the legs meet the body. And on the head, it flows out in a spiral from the nose. I hope that was helpful! Eggheart!🐥A True Warrior 18:41, June 20, 2019 (UTC)

Re: Shading

omg hi thank you, you're so nice!! <333 I do shading by filling the layer with the darker color and using the transparent brush to put in the highlights, if that makes sense. I find it a lot easier than drawing the shadows themselves lol tyb 🌌  owo??? 20:37, July 4, 2019 (UTC)Tybaxel
