Chapter description

Shadowsight wakes up in the SkyClan medicine cat den. Outside of the den he hears his father's voice, knowing that the tom has been worried about him. Leafstar greets the ShadowClan leader and his patrol. Tigerstar asks for Shadowsight to be allowed to return to ShadowClan territory where he belongs. Fidgetflake, with Leafstar's prompting, tells the ShadowClan cats that Shadowsight is still weak, but, is getting stronger each day and should be able to be moved between the camps. Frecklewish pitches in that while the young tom is healing, she thinks he is in danger if other Clans learn he is alive. Shadowsight recalls what he had seen while still a spirit, remembering the shock of Bramblestar being able to see him.

Frecklewish asks Tigerstar to consider the circumstances and allow Shadowsight to remain in SkyClan territory. Tigerstar agrees with the medicine cat, but, remains adamant that his son should return home. He reveals that he has begun preparing his cats for battle and that ShadowClan is in debt to SkyClan for their deeds. Anxious, Leafstar asks the other leader if he truly believes it would come to battle and Tigerstar states that he does and that Bramblestar cannot be trusted while he holds control over the five Clans. The two Clan leaders exchange their worries and concerns about the future, but, Tigerstar does remain firm in his belief that a battle is due soon.

With the help of Strikestone and Tawnypelt, Shadowsight is helped out of SkyClan camp. Tigerstar thanks the Clan once again before following his Clanmates back to ShadowClan territory. On their way to camp, Shadowsight is told by his father that a group of rebels had attacked Bramblestar and failed and made the impostor bolder in his actions. Upon reaching ShadowClan, the young tom is warmly greeted by his Clanmates, most notably his mother and Puddleshine. The young tom is taken to the medicine cat den to rest while his former mentor apologizes for not looking for him. However, Shadowsight points out that if he had been found earlier, he would not have discovered truths about Bramblestar. He explains that another spirit is inhabiting Bramblestar's body and that it was the spirit's voice he had heard delivering the warning about the codebreakers. Angered, Tigerstar states that they cannot wait around any longer and must kill whatever is controlling Bramblestar, but, Shadowsight protests, saying they must find out what has happened to the real Bramblestar's ghost.
