Chapter description[]

Bristlefrost enters the old SkyClan camp, followed by Stemleaf and Spotfur. Spotfur remarks that SkyClan must have been reluctant to leave the place, as it's a nice camp, while Bristlefrost takes in the area and silently agrees. The three warriors join the other gathered cats as the rebel meeting begins. Bristlefrost spots Crowfeather and Lionblaze arguing about dens and the worst-case scenario of Bramblestar exiling cats long enough that the exile camp needs a nursery and apprentice's den. The young warrior is horrified by the WindClan deputy's claims, and watches as Lionblaze storms off after declaring he would finish the warrior's den instead. Bristlefrost notices that a few cats overheard the argument and are muttering amongst themselves. Squirrelflight reassures Twigbranch that they wouldn't be there long enough. Tigerstar also agrees as he walks into camp, followed by Tawnypelt and Dovewing, prompting Twigbranch to acknowledge the statement.
The meeting begins as Bristlefrost notices more cats had gathered from WindClan and RiverClan, and that some of the original supporters were absent. SkyClan cats begin entering camp and Twigbranch calls out to her sister, Violetshine, as Bristlefrost avoids Rootpaw's gaze. The meeting begins with Squirrelflight prompting Bristlefrost to start. She tells the assembled cats the truth about Bramblestar and that an impostor is leading ThunderClan. The young cat calls on Rootpaw to tell them all what he had seen. He speaks up and reveals he had seen real Bramblestar's spirit and that the medicine cats and Tree had also seen the ghost. Bristlefrost continues to speak, noting that she had not seen the spirit herself, but is sure that the cat currently leading ThunderClan is not Bramblestar. She reveals that she had seen him return to camp covered in blood the night Shadowsight disappeared, and that he had attempted to have Sparkpelt killed. Cats yowl in shock and horror, and Bristlefrost spots Tigerstar and Dovewing sharing an expression of anguish. Tigerstar declares that they need to kill Bramblestar, and cries of agreement sound from the gathered cats.
Tawnypelt states that she does not want to lose her brother's body, but the imposter cannot be allowed to continue his cruelty. Bristlefrost also raises her concerns about killing Bramblestar's body, wondering what might happen to the real tom's spirit. An argument arises as cats voice their own opinions on what might happen, and Crowfeather questions if killing Bramblestar would even work, since his death was the initial cause of their problems. Conefoot, a ShadowClan warrior, asks if the real Bramblestar is even still around, noting that Rootpaw mentioned he had not been seen since the previous medicine cat meeting. Squirrelflight states that Bramblestar cannot be gone and would not have left her. She tells Tigerstar that due to the disappearance of Shadowsight, he should understand not wanting to give up on someone. The ShadowClan leader bitterly states that he believes his son to be dead due to the circumstances.
The argument breaks out once again, and Bristlefrost tenses as she realizes most of the gathered cats agree that they should kill the false Bramblestar. Jayfeather challenges the gathered cats' decision-making and tells them that they must think before acting. Bristlefrost agrees with the medicine cat and points out that if they kill Bramblestar, Berrynose will become the next ThunderClan leader. The clearing goes quiet as cats dwell on this fact, and that although they would prefer it, Squirrelflight would not be the next rightful leader of the Clan. Crowfeather also reveals that WindClan and Harestar would be against the idea of murdering a leader, to which Violetshine adds that Leafstar feels a similar way and that Mistystar might as well.
The outcry continues as the plot begins to dissipate, but Tigerstar takes control of the meeting once again and states that they must kill Bramblestar, but wait until the time is right. He concludes the meeting, telling the gathered cats that they must wait before any action is taken as they might risk war between the Clans. As Bristlefrost leaves the meeting, she feels herself shaking, and thinks that telling the rebels about what she had seen might have been a bad idea. She asks herself what would happen if they did kill Bramblestar's body, and wonders if they would never get the real Bramblestar back and ThunderClan would be ruined without him.
