Chapter description[]
- Spiresight is sunning himself in the last rays of daylight as he takes in the fact that his existence had become peaceful since his death. He states that he preferred to remain as a ghost instead of going to StarClan per Tigerstar's begging. The tom reveals he had been watching the Clans and observing their workings since and has noticed something is wrong. As he watches the sunset, he feels a sense of unease, as though a danger is lurking somewhere. Spiresight feels a pull towards a specific cat in need of his help and lets his paws carry him towards them.
- He comes across a powerful looking tom rolling in catmint, but, due to the low light, he is unable to make out who the cat is. The stranger soon takes off, vanishing into the undergrowth, when Spiresight hears Shadowsight's cry. The black tom arrives to see the stranger from before attack the young medicine cat. Spiresight yowls in anger and shock, realizing that he cannot summon any cats to help. He watches in horror as the attacker drags Shadowsight's body away and throws him into a nearby ravine. For a split second, the mysterious tom makes eye contact with the ghost before disappearing into the undergrowth. Spiresight rushes to the ravine to look for the young cat's body, but cannot see him, and questions why his instincts sent him there only to watch a friend die.
