"Yes, we're WarriorClan. Clan cats have lived on this territory for seasons. You must either submit to our authority, or face our wrath!"
Monkeystar to Graystripe in Graystripe's Vow, page 204

WarriorClan is an informal Clan in the forest territories. It was founded by kittypets after hearing tales of the Clans from Barley and Smudge.[1]

Description[]

WarriorClan is an unofficial Clan created by some adventurous kittypets from the local Twolegplace to honor the four warrior Clans that resided in the old forest territories previously. They learned about the Clans from the tales of Smudge, an old kittypet,[2] and Barley,[3] an old farm cat, both of whom had relationships with some of the great warriors, including Firestar, Bluestar, and Graystripe. The cats of WarriorClan are protective of their new territory and enjoy hunting and playing together during the daylight hours. At night, they return home to their Twolegs.[2]
Graystripe comes across WarriorClan in the old RiverClan territories. They are in awe of being in the presence of a real life warrior cat. Graystripe teaches them some basic hunting and fighting skills upon their request, which they promise to practice.[2] WarriorClan's numbers grow upon the addition of the formerly trapped kittypets from the old Twoleg's den. They gain their first medicine cat, Petunia, and their first deputy under Monkeystar, Fang.[4]

Territory[]

In the forest territories[]

WarriorClan resides in RiverClan's old territory where during the day they act as a Clan and during the night they go home to their Twolegs. However, this is only true for the original members of the Clan, consisting of Monkeystar, Fireface, Bugeater, Clawwhistle, Bigteeth, and Chester. The rest of the Clan remains in their camp as they do not have Twolegs to return to.

Eras[]

Monkeystar.leader

Monkeystar is known to help other cats and learn from her mistakes. She encourages personal growth in her Clanmates.

Monkeystar[]

Monkeystar is the current leader of WarriorClan. She names herself leader of the group although she was not given her leader name or nine lives from StarClan. She claims to decide what the WarriorClan cats do each day as she is leader. Although not exactly sure of her position, Monkeystar has the desire to learn from her mistakes and become a better leader for her friends. She is shown to be courageous and determined by wanting to help other cats she hardly knows, as seen by her enthusiasm to accompany Graystripe on his journeys, protect the elderly barn cat Barley from danger, and help free the kittypets in Fang's old Twoleg den.
Although Monkeystar is the named leader of WarriorClan, Graystripe secretly knows that her new deputy, Fang, is the cat who will protect and lead the WarriorClan cats through thick and thin. Monkeystar cares deeply for her Clanmates, as seen in the exclusive comic when she helps persuade Petunia to leave her past behind and come home to WarriorClan where she is needed.

Author statements[]

  • While unrelated, Kate Cary has stated that she believes there are other Clans outside of the five surrounding the lake with their own versions of the warrior code, prophecies, and ancestors, and that "honour is what would make them warriors and not rogue gangs."[blog 1]

Quotes[]

«The last of the Clans have gone from this place, […] WarriorClan keeps our memory alive, but even what they know of the Clans is far from the real story.»
—Graystripe Graystripe's Vow, page 315

«They won't be a Clan like ours, but they will care for one another. And that, at heart, is what a Clan is. If that's all I've accomplished on my wander, it's not bad. Not bad at all.»
—Graystripe thinking about WarriorClan's status as a Clan Graystripe's Vow, page 407
