This is PC's official tutorial on making and editing character pages. For a tutorial on other aspects of PC, look here.

FA Tab

This tab is up to senior warriors, the deputy and leader of Project Characters and should be left alone. If you see a problem with it, let them know.

Unreleased

Unreleased Character

This tab is added to characters that are unreleased. This means they will make their first appearance in a book that is not released yet. This is usually because the allegiances on a Warriors book is released early, so their page is made before the actual release of the book.

Stub and Style Tab

stub
Style

This is the stub and style tab for any pages considered stubs. Usually, pages have these stubs because the history needs lots of work. The template also automatically adds the page in the category stubs too!

Delete Tab

Reason

This is put on pages that have to be deleted. Usually this is because someone has created a character that does not exist in the official Warriors series. Just add the reason why it needs to be deleted and an admin will come around and remove it.

Start Spoiler

Startspoiler

The start spoiler tab is added just before the main quote. This warns readers that below contains spoilers and should be cautious.

Main Quote

"?"
— ? in ?, page ?

This is a template for the main quotes. It’s used on most pages that have more than one quote. It’s best to use a quote that doesn’t need multiple talkers and highlights the character the best. You place the actual quote in front of the ‘quote’, put the speakers (who is talking, who to or about what), in front of ‘speaker’. References are what book it is from, put the book in the ? question mark, and put in the page number too. If you cannot get a page number (for example, the novellas do not have official page numbers), then put in the chapter number and replace page with chapter.

Charcat/Charother

This is the template that sits on the side of pages and contains lots of basic information about a character. I’ll walk through each part of the templates below. Note that every part of the information needs a cite and a link where possible. If you need a tutorial on these, we have a one on the other tutorial page. Charcat is templates for cats only, and charother is for any other characters that is not a cat. If there is a section that is not needed, you can either add ‘None known’ or ‘unknown’ in the answer or just remove that section.

Charcat

Charcat Tab

This is the beginning of the charcat template. You put all the other information between this and the ending. The order of the rest of the coding can be as random as you like, as long as this tab is at the top and the ending is at the bottom.

{{Charcat

Image

This part is up to senior warriors, the deputy and leader of Project Characters Art and only they are allowed to edit this. If there is a problem, let them know on the project page.

Affie

Affie is the characters current affiliations, usually whatever group or rank they are currently. For example, Bramblestar is currently a ThunderClan cat. StarClan and the Dark Forest is also currently considered an affiliation, but not the Tribe of Endless Hunting.

|affie = ThunderClan os4

Pastaffie

Pastaffie is the characters previous affiliations, such as Stormcloud was previously a kittypet and a loner.

|pastaffie = Kittypet,bs Lonerbs

Age

This shows the age of the character if it is known. Usually it is calculated by the number of moons passing in the series, or if it is mentioned. Sometimes, both are used. Be careful when working out a character’s age as it’s easy to get it mixed up. If the character is deceased, you need to add ‘at death’ at the end and a cite for their death. Below is the age of Barkface (he is really old!)

|age = Approx. 153 moons (12.75 years)tr at deathom1

Death

If the reason is known of a character’s cause of death, it is added here. Make sure you have a proper cite for the cause, not just speculation. Below is Deadfoot’s cause of death listed.

|death=Killed in the battle with BloodClanfb

Names

Since usually with the Clans, a character has different names at different times. We list here the different ranks of every character has, as well as the name they have when they are in that rank. You list the rank then the name. Make sure to include <!-- Names --> before it. The ranking listing doesn’t need an external link. Here is an example of Goldenflower’s many names under different ranks.

<!-- Names -->
|kit=Goldenkitbp
|apprentice=Goldenpawbp
|warrior=Goldenflowerbp
|queen=Goldenfloweros1
|elder=Goldenflowernp4
|starclan resident=Goldenflowertug

Family

This section lists the character’s immediately family. (Parents, Siblings, Mates and Kits. Half family members and foster are included too.) It is listed the same way the names section is, but this time the names of the family members have to have an external link. If have more than one of the same family member, then make sure the stated relation is plural. Make sure to include Below is <!--Kin--> before it and <!--End Kin--> after it. Firestar's family section.

<!--Kin-->
|father = Jake
|mother=Nutmeg
|sister=Princess
|siblings=Unnamed kits
|half-brothers=Scourge, Socks
|half-sister=Ruby
|mate=Sandstorm
|daughters=Leafpool, Squirrelflight
<!--End Kin-->

Note: The coding for the family relation 'Kit' (not daughter or son), is 'child' instead, with the plural of 'children'.

Mentor and Apps

This is where a characters mentors and apprentices are listed. This is usually a custom found with the Clans. The character’s names must be linked externally and a cite added. Below is an example of Crookedstar’s mentors and apprentices.

|mentor = Cedarpeltcp
|apps = Sedgecreek,cp Stonefursecrets

Positions

This is for leaders, deputies and medicine cats. It lists who held that specific rank in the Clan before and after the character. You can also do multiple versions of the positions by replacing the number 1 with 2. Then you can go on forever with the positions. Below is an example of Spottedleaf’s position.

|position1 = Medicine Cat
|precededby1 = Featherwhiskerbp
|succeededby1 = Yellowfangos1

Livebooks and Deadbooks

This lists the character’s appearances as living or deceased in as either a StarClan cat, Dark Forest cat or Tribe of Endless Hunting cat. There’s no need for cites, but external links must be used. Here is an example of Nightstar’s appearances. Note: This is for when a character appears only. Do not add if the character is only mentioned in a book!

|livebooks=Yellowfang's Secret, Into the Wild, Fire and Ice, Forest of Secrets, Tigerclaw's Fury, Rising Storm
|deadbooks=Midnight, Starlight, The Ultimate Guide

Ending

Like most templates, you add two } to end the template. It can be placed beside the last coding, (for example, livebooks and deadbooks) or added below it.

}}

Charother

Charother Tab

Like the charcat tab, this is beginning of the charother template. It is essentially the exact same as the charcat, except it starts the charother template instead.

{{Charother

Catfriend

This lists if the character is friendly to cats currently. The coding is much like a charcat affie, except a cite isn’t needed. Below is an example of The Captain’s current catfriend.

|catfriend=Yes

Pastcatfriend

Much like Catfriend, this just lists if the character was friendly to cats in the past. This coding is also similar to the pastaffie of the charcat template. This also doesn’t need a cite. Below is an example of Ken’s pastcatfriend.

|pastcatfriend=Yes

Creatype

This lists the creature (in cat terms) the character is. A cite or external link is not needed. The example below shows that Darrel is a Twoleg.

||creatype=Twoleg

Species

This is lists the species of the character and the term is more related to reality. A cite isn’t needed, but a link to the Wikipedia page is needed and the proper scientific name is used too. Here is an example of Ken’s species listed.

|species=Homo sapiens

Livebooks and Deadbooks

This is exactly the same as the charcat template. You list the books the character has appeared in, living or in an afterlife. Below is Midnight’s book appearances.

|livebooks = Midnight, Moonrise, Starlight, Twilight, Sunset, Leafpool's Wish, Long Shadows, Sunrise, Hollyleaf's Story, The Fourth Apprentice, Fading Echoes, Mistystar's Omen, Night Whispers, The Forgotten Warrior, The Last Hope, Dovewing's Silence, The Ultimate Guide
|deadbooks =None

Ending

Exactly the same as the charcat template. It ends the template, and you can put the coding in between this and the charother tab in whatever order you like. Although I recommend trying to keep it organised so it’s easy for other users to edit it.

}}

Description

The description shows a characters current name, as well as a full description of the character. The name should be in bold, then add the phrase ‘is a’.

Sometimes, a character is known by multiple names or its current name is possibly a few ones. Like Half Moon for example, is also known as Stoneteller. For that, we go with Half Moon, or Stoneteller, is a (etc). The names here don’t need cites as it’s covered in the charcat.

For the description part, we list the physical description of the character, nothing about their rank or personality. Cites are also needed for this part. Below is Half Moon’s (or Stoneteller’s) description.

Half Moon, or Stoneteller,dc1 is a compactpo5 white she-catpo5 with clear,dc1 dark green eyes.om4

Sometimes, a synonym of the same description is used again and again, such as a character is mentioned to have smooth fur, then later has glossy fur. Both mean the same, so what’s the point of listing them both? For a table on these some of these words and a little more of an explanation, go here.

Note that we list physical descriptions found in books only. Do not add something because it’s shown on their charart!

History

This is where most of the work of the article is put. The history explains the character’s role in each book.

Organising and Tabs

We start with the history tab as shown below. After that, we add the type the books are under, such as a Super Edition, part of the Power of Three arc or a field guide. After that is where we add the book’s title and the history under that. The example is taken from Graystripe’s page.

How best to write a Character’s history

There are different styles on writing a character’s history. Firstly, you have to make sure you are writing in UK English first. When you’re used to a different english like US English, it can take a little time to adjust. Next is to make sure each paragraph is not overly long but not overly short as well. Three or more sentences are good for a paragraph, but a hundred sentences is a bit too much. The sentences themselves can’t be very short one liners but also can’t be overly long.

For example, this is a paragraph with too many short sentences:

Fireheart greets Cloudpaw. The apprentices just came into the camp. He has a mouse in his jaws. Cloudpaw boasts how he caught the mouse. He describes that the mouse never saw him coming. The mouse didn’t even realize a cat was stalking in. Sandstorm interrupts. She asks Fireheart to come and eat with her. Fireheart looks nervous. He agrees. Cloudpaw scoffs. He is annoyed at the interruption. He leaves. He goes to find someone else to brag. He wants to brag about his catch more.

This is a paragraph that has too few but very long sentences:

Fireheart greets Cloudpaw as the apprentice comes into the camp and he has a mouse in his jaws and boasts about how he caught the mouse, describing that it never saw him coming and that the mouse didn’t realize a cat was stalking it. Sandstorm interrupts and asks Fireheart to come and eat with her, causing Fireheart to look nervous but agree to which makes Cloudpaw scoff in annoyance at the interruption and leave to look for someone else to brag about his catch.

This is about what works with the article:

Fireheart greets Cloudpaw as the apprentice comes into the camp. With a mouse in his jaws, Cloudpaw boasts about his catch, describing that it never saw him coming. He also mentions that the mouse never realized a cat was stalking it. Sandstorm interrupts and asks Fireheart to come eat with her. Fireheart seems nervous, but he agrees to this. Cloudpaw soffs, unhappy at the interruption but leaves to brag to someone else about his catch.

Differences between minor and major

One reason histories between articles can be different is because of the character’s importance. You won’t be as descriptive about a character like Tallpoppy for example like you are with Mistystar right? Try to treat each book as a separate thing. Mistystar appears a lot in Mistystar's Omen, but not so much in Firestar's Quest. In Firestar's Quest, you would describe as much as you can about her as she only appears once, but in Mistystar's Omen you’d tone it down and summarize her major appearances in the book as she is the main character.

Most of the time, this technique is used but sometimes, you have characters like Sandgorse or Cloudberry who are a bit more than a minor character in a book but are hardly mentioned in any other book. That’s when you can treat them as a minor character as there’s plenty of space in the article with the lack of other books.

If you’re stuck on how descriptive you need to be on a character, this box below might help.

Importance Description Example
Main Mention all important appearances and their significance to the plot, but not every appearance and mention or it'll be too long. Firestar in Firestar's Quest, Bluestar in Bluestar's Prophecy.
Major Mention all important appearances and their significance to the plot, but not every appearance and mention or it'll be too long. You have slightly more room to describe than with a main character. Raggedstar in Yellowfang's Secret, Mapleshade in Crookedstar's Promise
Supporting Detail their appearances and important mentions as much as you can without going away too much from the character. Echosong in SkyClan's Destiny , Minty in Bramblestar's Storm
Minor Detail their appearance/s and mention/s as much as you possibly can to flesh it out. Blackstar in Forest of Secrets, Darkstar in Code of the Clans
Allegiances Only Use the allegiance-only template. If they are also mentioned, add the template then treat them as a mentioned character. Graystripe in Starlight, Tawnyfur in A Dangerous Path
Mentioned Detail their mention/s as much as you possibly can to flesh it out. Bluestar in The Elders' Concern, Oatspeckle in Mapleshade's Vengeance

Coming Soon Templates

For uncompleted histories or for unreleased character pages, we use the coming soon templates to help keep track.

CS

Coming Soon

This is for histories of books that have not been started. This is usually for unreleased characters or for under books that have only recently released.

m

More Coming Soon

This is for parts of a character’s history that is unfinished. This usually happens when someone starts writing a section of a character’s history and doesn’t finish it for whatever reason. If you are looking for something to do, these coming soon signs will help you find that something to do.

Stub Template

:Stub-section

This is added to sections of histories that are not written well enough. Place it just below the book’s heading.

Allegiances-only Template

:Book Title
Book Title does not formally appear in The Blazing Star , but is listed in the allegiances.

This template is used for characters that only appeared in the allegiances of a book. As you can see above, it takes the the pages name and adds a link to the books allegiances, as long as you add in the proper book!

For characters who have a different name at the time of the book to their article, (or have something extra in their article name like Ashfur (TC)), you can just adjust the code slightly to change it.

For example, let's pretend Bluestar is an allegiances-only character in Goosefeather's Curse, but her name is Bluekit at the time. We would have the title like this:

:Goosefeather's Curse

Which becomes this!

Goosefeather's Curse does not formally appear in The Blazing Star , but is listed in the allegiances.

Trivia

Trivia
*

The trivia lists interesting facts about a character mostly found in internet links from authors but sometimes from the books themselves. It also lists if a character has the blood of a different Clan or affiliations, (for example) and mistakes made with the characters (such as description errors or name errors). It will be listed as bullet points and always have a cite, otherwise it will be removed. Interesting Facts are to be listed first before Mistakes. Below is an example of a trivia taken from Tallstar’s page.

Character Pixels

Like the image on the charcat template, this part is up to senior warriors, the deputy or leader of Project Character Art and only they may edit this part. If you see a problem, do not try to fix it and let them know of the problem. This includes complex coding and just editing the page will not fix the problem.

Kin

There are two parts to this section. There are the members listed and the family tree.

Members

This is where all family members are listed, not just immediate family. How they are related to the character is mentioned first in bold text, then their name and an external link to their page. There also must be a cite and their current status. For example, below was taken from Poppyfrost’s page:

Brother:
:Molepaw:np6 Molepaw (NP)

Sisters:
:Cinderheart:np6 Cinderheart
:Honeyfern:np6 Honeyfern
:Lilyheart:om5 Lilyheart
:Seedpaw:om5 Seedpaw

Usually for characters like Poppyfrost, their members list will be copied from their parents list then edited a bit, but the cites don’t need changing. If you actually look on Poppyfrost’s page, you will see that she has a lot of family members. When it’s too long like that, we add a ‘see more’ section to make the page neater. Make sure to always have the immediate family listed, but extended family may be hidden. Usually, if there’s more than three sections of extended family then I add the see more section.

Here is the coding for the see more. Just add the family members in the space in between.

Lastly, if external family is listed in the members section, we add this note to warn other users. Add it just below the members section tab. This will not appear on the page but will appear in the source mode.

<!--Note: While Warriors does not officially recognize anything more than direct family, we have it listed for organizational purposes. Please do not alter what you see listed.-->

Tree

Genetic

If there are more than two members of a family, those characters will get a family tree. Making the tree has a lot of complex coding, so much that I have a different tutorial for it! What is displayed on the page is only a link to the family tree. It doesn’t matter if it’s under another character’s name, as long as it shows the most family members, it is fine.

    = Tom

    = She-cat

    = Gender unknown

Lizardstripe Tree

Here is Runningnose’s family tree, a pretty simple version. In this case, all of his family members trees will be directed to this link. Sometimes though, you’ll have kits such as Cinderheart’s, who’s family trees are so big both parents’ family members, cannot fit. It’s best to just choose one that shows the most members and go with that.

Foster

We now have foster family trees for cats who have two foster family members (or are foster-related to a cat that does).

    = Tom

    = She-cat

    = Gender unknown

Brindleface Foster Tree

This is to be displayed underneath the genetic family tree with both under appropriate subheadings:

Genetic
Foster
The genetic sub-heading does not need to be listed if there is only the genetic family tree on a character's page. If there is however only a foster family tree listed, the foster family tree subheading will be used to avoid confusion for users.Stealthf🔥re ❤Warriors Forever!❤ 22:27, February 3, 2019 (UTC)

Quotes

Quotes from the characters, narrator quotes or even from other characters are put here. While the best one goes up top, the rest go here. The amount of quotes depends on the character, but there is a good limit. For example, major characters like Firestar and Mapleshade who appear frequently have many quotes, but minor characters like Weaselfur and Crowfrost don’t appear very much. It’s best for major characters to pick out the best quotes and add them, and minor characters that don’t appear much is to find as many as you can.

The best quotes are ones that represent the character the most. For example, One Eye’s main quote is Clear Sky describing his qualities, but Purdy's is him showing some wisdom. One Eye’s other quotes are other cats describing him and his own opinions, while Purdy’s quotes are more of his wisdom, his humour or something that really touches his character.

Below are templates that you can use for quotes. Please note that if you cannot get a page number, you can just add chapter to the page number section then add the chapter number:

Single Quote Template

This is easy and simple and a bit like the main quote template. You do not need to add quote marks to the quote or brackets to the source, it does that for you.

Multi Quote Template

This doesn’t need to stop at d, (or four speaking roles), I’m pretty sure it can stretch all the way to z. You add who is speaking to speaker, then the quote to quote. You don’t need to add quote marks but this time you need brackets for the source.

Ceremonies

If a character’s ceremony is in a book, it will be added here. The ceremonies range from apprentice, warrior, deputy and leader ceremony. We also have a special box to put a leader’s information.

Apprentice, Warrior and Deputy Ceremonies

The title you list the character’s name they will have after the ceremony and what ceremony they will have. For example, we could be doing Bluefur’s Warrior Ceremony. The reference would be in Bluestar’s Prophecy, page 215 (or list chapter if you cannot get a page number). You put the leader’s name, in this case it would be Pinestar. If the apprentice does make a comment, then you can put their name in the appname (although it doesn’t need to be there if it isn’t needed.) You list the quotes as the position they are with a number. A cat speaking multiple times will need another quote, so we go down the numbers again. Finally, if there’s a chant, add it and what they chant in the question mark.

So, for Bluefur’s Warrior Ceremony, we’ll have this:

Which becomes this!

Leader Ceremony

Since Leader Ceremonies are longer and have a lot more speakers, we would use this template instead. Although, it is a bit more complicated.

First, you’d add the leader’s name to the title. Now, there is no appname or leadername here. You have to add the speakers name and their line at each line, a bit like the multi quote template. After that, you add the book it is from and pages.

So, if we are doing Firestar’s Leader Ceremony, we’d have this:

{{Leader Ceremony
|title = Firestar's Leader Ceremony
|speaker1 = StarClan
|line1 = Welcome, Fireheart. Are you ready to receive your nine lives?
|speaker2 = Fireheart
|line2 = Yes. I'm ready.
|speaker3 = Lionheart
|line3 = With this life I give you courage. Use it well in defense of your Clan.
|speaker4 = Redtail
|line4 = With this life I give you justice. Use it well as you judge the actions of others.<BR>Thank you. You revealed the truth when no one else could.
|speaker5 = Silverstream
|line5 = With this life I give you loyalty to what you know to be right. Use it well to guide your Clan in times of trouble.
|speaker6 = Runningwind
|line6 = With this life I give you tireless energy. Use it well to carry out the duties of a leader.
|speaker7 = Brindleface
|line7 = With this life, I give you protection. Use it well to care for your Clan as a mother cares for her kits.
|speaker8 = Swiftpaw
|line8 = With this life I give you mentoring. Use it well to train the young cats of your Clan.
|speaker9 = Yellowfang
|line9 = With this life I give you compassion. Use it well for the elders of your Clan, and the sick, and all those weaker than yourself.
|speaker10 = Spottedleaf
|line10 = With this life I give you love. Use it well, for all the cats in your care - and especially for Sandstorm.
|speaker11 = Bluestar
|line11 = Welcome, Fireheart, my apprentice, my warrior, and my deputy. I always knew you would make a great leader one day. With this life I give you nobility and certainty and faith. Use it well as you lead your Clan in the ways of StarClan and the warrior code. I hail you by your new name, Firestar. Your old life is no more. You have now received the nine lives of a leader, and StarClan grants you the guardianship of ThunderClan. Defend it well; care for young and old; honor your ancestors and the traditions of the warrior code; live each life with pride and dignity.
|speaker12 = StarClan
|line12 = Firestar! Firestar! Firestar! Firestar!
|ref = The Darkest Hour, pages 48-54
}}

Leader Info

This is the leader information box at the bottom at the page. It gives a simple list of their lives and deputies, if known. If neither is known, then this box will not be added. Cites are not needed here.

First, you add the givers of the nine lives in order. Always add external links to the characters page if there is one. If a giver is unknown, just add the work unknown and put it in italic. You then list the gift in order and if unknown, do the same thing. With how the life was lost, we list how they died, and what book it happened in. When listing the book, it has to have an external link. If it doesn’t happen in a book, estimate around any book you can. An example is between two books or just before a book. Again, if unknown, add that word in italics.

For the deputies section, you add the name of the deputies in order of when they served (external link to their page of course!). Note that you add the name they had as deputies, not leader names if they became leader! For the from, you add what book the character became deputy. Like above, if it’s not in a book, estimate best you can. With to, you add the book the character dropped the rank, whatever the reason. If they are still currently the deputy, just add the word ‘Present’.

So, for Windstar’s leader info box, we will have this:

End Spoiler

Endspoiler

Much like the start spoiler template, it warns readers where the spoilers end. This is added just after the ceremonies and the leader info box.

Categories

How to edit Categories

There are three ways to edit categories and I’ll explain them all, but I find the second way easier. This is how it’s done on a computer, I’m not sure if it’s the same on a mobile phone.

The first way works when you go visual editor, then source mode. Scroll down to the bottom and all the categories will be there. You can remove those links to remove a category and add a link to the category so that category will be added. For example, if you want to add a character to the males category, then you would just add .

For the second way, go to the bottom on the page, (no need to be in editing mode), and just click the ‘add category’ and write in what category you want to add. However, if you want to delete a category, the above and below methods are best.

For the third way, go straight to source mode (click on the down arrow beside the edit button and click ‘classic editor’) Make sure on the right side of the screen you have a box that shows all sorts of things like the publish button. The bottom right shows a scroll and use that to scroll down. Once you reach the categories, you can add categories by typing in the box the category’s name. For deleting, hover your mouse over the category you want to delete and a bin icon will appear. Just press that.

What Categories Are Needed

All characters need the same groups of categories added.

Firstly, you add the Characters category. Next is the Gender categories. It’s either females, males, or characters with unknown genders.

Thirdly we have a category for the importance for a character. We have categories for mentioned-only, allegiance only, minor, supporting, major and main.

Next is Characters by Allegiance. Whenever they were part of a group, such as ThunderClan or the Tribe, it must be added. There is also Clanless Cats for cats who were ever a rogue, kittypet or loner.

You also add the rank the character had previously held or currently holds, such as senior warriors, elders, or even mentors! There is also Characters with unknown ranks who is for confirmed Clan cats but is unknown what rank they hold/held. Lastly there is the Clanless cat ranks, rogues, kittypets and loners.

For characters that appear in many books, this will be the largest part. Whenever a characters appears in a book, the specific character book category will be added. There is one for almost every book, such as Into the Wild characters, Secrets of the Clans characters and Bluestar’s Prophecy characters.

For characters that are not cats, they have their own species category. So far, we have a category for badgers and a category for Twolegs.

Lastly, we have a category and subcategories for deceased characters. There is also categories for the three afterlives: StarClan, Tribe of Endless Hunting cats and Dark Forest cats. There is also a category for SkyClan ancestors and a couple sub categories for the Dark Forest. We have a category for Dark Forest trainees and a category for Dark Forest visitors.
