  • June 1st
    • The first batch of apprentices with removed OA claims is now posted. A few tweaks are also available as well. The next batch will be on August 1st. This will be the final extension for apprentice OA images. In addition, please only claim one apprentice image (unless you are working on your own OA apprentice claims) to keep it fair for everyone else. You're free to work on another image in the meanwhile as well.
  • April 29th
    • Final call for apprentice OA claims. If you still have images on this list, you have until June 1st to work on your remaining apprentice images. If you are currently working on your images and contact an admin before then, you can have an extension until August 1st. However, if you do not contact an admin by June 1st about an extension for your remaining apprentice images, these will be moved to the apprentice available list. This will also include images that have been sitting on the tweak list that still need to be done.

Participating[]

Welcome to Project:Character Artwork, also known as PCA! PCA is the largest and most active project on the wiki. PCA is responsible for creating visual depictions of the Warriors characters, especially in the the early days when there was limited official artwork. The pixel artworks are called "chararts", short for "character artworks", and are created by volunteer members of the wiki from a range of art styles and skill levels. You do not need to be an experienced artist to participate in this project. It is important to note that these designs are not canon, but interpretations of the characters based upon canon material, whether that be from the books, additional information from the authors, or the Warrior Cats website.

The following is a brief terminology list of the terms we use in PCA. Check out our guidelines for more information.

Terminology[]

  • Chararts - Short for character artwork, it's the name we give our pixel images on the wiki.
  • CBA - Comments before approval. The final call for comments and criticisms for a charart on the Approval Page. CBAs are only granted by project leads, though they may be "broken" at any time if a project member finds something to comment on. CBAs last at least twenty-four hours, after which the charart will be added to its corresponding page by another lead.
  • Lineart and Blanks - Our pixel blanks. The black outlines that we use for our chararts. New blanks, or new poses, are created by members of the project.
  • Waste - Pixels outside the lineart, which is supposed to be transparent. These pixels have to be removed and can be fixed with the erasure tool. Sometimes art programs have clipping effects to automatically remove waste. Here is an example of waste outside of the lineart.
  • Leaking - Pixels fading away from the edge of the lineart. Oftentimes, this occurs from shading that is blurred too harshly to the lineart, creating a fading effect away from the lineart. This can usually be fixed by using a small pencil tool on the shading layer along the lineart.

Rankings[]

Members within PCA are grouped into rankings similar to the Clan hierarchy in the series. Most users are promoted from kit to apprentice to warrior, but others may be promoted to senior warriors, deputy, or even leader.

  • Kits - Newer members of the project. Kits are given extra time to complete their image (10 days between reuploads compared to 7 days). Their images have "For Evaluation" as their heading on the Approval Page to distinguish them as just starting out. Once a kit has an image that is more then 50% completed, they are promoted to an apprentice by a project lead.
  • Apprentices - Apprentices are still newer members, but now have some experience with the approval process. They now use the "For Approval" heading on the Approval Page. Apprentices who have four (4) approved images are promoted to warriors by a project lead.
  • Warriors - The main body of the project. Warriors are now experienced enough to use the Tweak Page and may vote on tweaks and do some themselves. As needed, some warriors are nominated to be senior warriors by the community.
  • Senior warriors (SW) - Project leaders, or leads. Senior warriors are nominated by their peers for their extemporary leadership in the project. SWs are tasked with monitoring the talk page, archiving tweak nominations, ensuring the tweaks are properly done, and approving and declining images on the Approval Page. Any warrior who has been active in the project for four (4) months and has at least six (6) images approved may be nominated.
  • Leader and deputy - Leaders of the project with the same duties as leads. Typically, a deputy is chosen by the leader from the senior warriors, and the deputy succeeds the leader when they step down. The leader and deputy often oversee forums for new blanks or votes within the project.

Offer Character Art[]

To offer up character art, simply add a new section to the Approval Page with the image you have made using one of the below pixel blanks (which has been Uploaded to the wiki). Png file types are preferable, with transparent backgrounds. Please make sure to comply with the Naming Conventions.

Current Projects[]

Only WARRIORS AND ABOVE are allowed to tweak or redo images A maximum of one character/rank can be claimed by any one kit or apprentice at any one time, and a maximum of two character/rank can be claimed by any one warrior at any one time; that must include any images up for approval at the time. However, only one of those reservations is permitted to be original art.

Images can only go one week without uploads before getting declined, or be up for approval one month total. No characters are permitted to be claimed for ranks that we do not have blanks for. (These will be removed from the page.) Please use the system of abbreviations listed below when reserving your images. This is to prevent discrepancies with reservations, and to confirm that you are in fact reserving a rank we have a citation for.
