In the first series, twenty-one years ago, an orange house cat joins a group of wild cats so he doesn't have to visit the vet. And destiny and stuff. 10/10 make sure you read.
In the second series, follow the next generation warriors to their new home and...uh...is this a better love story than Twilight? Probably not. But this is unfortunately required reading for the next six arcs so get reading.
In the third series, Firestar's grandchildren try to figure out the meaning of the prophecy for twelve books. Enjoy fan favorites Jaypaw and Hollypaw, only to remember that Lionpaw also exists.
In the fourth series, the Third cat is found, and they spend six more books trying to figure out what the prophecy means. And the ultimate face off between good and evil.
In the seventh series, an angsty cat returns from the dead to imprison his ex's husband's body, exiles and kills several innocent cats, seeps verbal poison into the Clans to destroy them from within, threatens his ex's children and family, and drags her into cat hell. Oh and there's a romance plot and some ghosts.
In the eighth series, RiverClan suddenly becomes relevant with the only interesting plot. Fans wonder for six books who will become RiverClan's next leader. Icewing? Duskfur? Frostpaw? Nightheart? Splashtail? Unfortunately there aren't any good options.
These extra-long stories range in quality from top tier to meh. The fans sometime influence the topical cat. So you have no one to blame but yourself. 🫵
Formerly a kittypetnamed Garfield, our main protagonist was invited to join ThunderClan after Bluestar received the prophecy from StarClan that fire alone could conquer the lasagnas. After demonstrating his worth to train as a lasagna warrior, he was apprenticed as Garfieldpaw and trained alongside his best friends Odiepaw and Nermalpaw. Garfieldpaw had to prove his loyalty to his adopted Hungry Clan countless times over due to his kittypet heritage, but the Hungry Clan soon came to respect him. As a warrior, Garfieldheart uncovered the mystery of Jon Arbuckle's death and the Spiders' treachery. As leader of Thunder Hungry Clan, Garfieldstar led all four Clans as the mythical LionClan into battle against Herman Post and his posties. After conquering the forest's trays of lasagna, Garfieldstar passed the torch to his former apprentice and close advisor, Pooky. Garfieldstar's legacy still lives on, and he is remembered as one of the greatest lasagna warriors in the history of the Hungry Clans.
Into the Sauce was the first Hungry Cats book to be published, being released twenty years ago on January 21st, 2003. The book was written by Jim Davis under the pen name Erin Hunter. It was originally penned to be a single book, but was quickly expanded into six books. The book features Garfield, a young house cat, joining Thunder Hungry Clan in the midst of turmoil between all four Hungry Clans as he trains to be a lasagna warrior alongside his fellow apprentice, Odiepaw and Nermalpaw. As Garfieldpaw grows up, his merit as a lasagna warrior is repeatedly challenged, especially by the Spiders. In the midst, a prophecy waits to be fulfilled. Into the Sauce was later republished in 2015 as the first book in The Lasagna Begins arc with a new cover by Owen Richardson.
