Holly was a WindClanwarrior during the founding of the Clans under Windstar'sleadership. Holly grew up as a rogue in the forest with her two friends, Mud Paws and Mouse Ear, and she was very familiar with the treacerous One Eye and his antics. Holly, Mud Paws, and Mouse Ear approached Thunder after a meeting with the spirit cats to join his group on the moor. Upon learning that One Eye joined Clear Sky's group, Holly warns the moor cats of One Eye and his schemes. She also grows close with Jagged Peak, teaching him to find his courage and self-esteem following his injury. While pregnant with their kits, Holly falls ill with the mysterious sickness, though recovers once the early settlers discover the Blazing Star. After giving birth to Eagle Feather, Dusk Nose, and Storm Pelt, Holly and Jagged Peak move their family to the pine trees under Tall Shadow's leadership. However, Holly and Jagged Peak move their family back to WindClan with Wind Runner so their kits could grow up on the moor.
The Sun Trail was the first book of the Dawn of the Clans arc. It was first published on March 5th, 2013 ten years ago, and it was later re-released in 2016. The book was written by Cherith Baldry under the new editorial team at Working Partners, and this was the last main arc book Victoria Holmes worked on. Gray Wing is featured on both versions of the cover; Wayne McLoughlin illustrated the first edition while Owen Richardson illustrated the reprint. The book features a group from the ancient Tribe fleeing their home in the mountains for a new home in search of prey. The story tells the origins of the five Clans, and four out of five founders are introduced in this book.
