Defining Shading - IllusionaryInfiltrator[]

Not sure if this should be uploaded to wiki yet so you get a link instead. Lemme know if I'm good to upload and I will!! https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/527589465766494241/1129612502964121691/definingshading.png Illusion ☄. *. ⋆ 18:33, 15 July 2023 (UTC)

i really hope i wont come across as rude or anything, but this is not what defining shading means. defining shading means darkening the shading and defining the depth. you have the definition correct but the images dont reflect this. they are just picking different tints and lowering opacity. also you describe depth shading as smaller than your normal shading, but im not seeing hardly any difference in size compared to the original Winter 00:10, 7/17/2023

I'm going to have to disagree with you. There's a clear difference between the depth layer and the main shading layer, especially on the legs, belly, ears, and tail, and in the adjusted opacity layers. This image passed PCA, with suggestions in Discord that the depth layer doesn't need to be the same color to preserve some of the tint from the set's shading. There's nowhere that I've seen that the depth layer has to be the same color as the main shading, it's something I've done on several of my approved images now. Agreeing with Winter here, sorry 00:52, 17/7/2023

There's been some mixed messages between here and Discord on this, so I won't be making any changes until there's a more definitive answer. Illusion ☄. *. ⋆ 00:54, 18 July 2023 (UTC)

Hmmm I think I might agree with Winter's comments as well, especially since I'm not seeing much placement differences in your depth layer versus your first shading. Your explanations are correct, but it's not really demonstrated. I think if you used a different image that had a more clearly defined depth layer that is much smaller than the original shading layer, then I think this could work. Vec I am Iron Man! 👾 01:17, 18 July 2023 (UTC)

Fair enough *nodding* Would any of you be willing to look through my charart page and see if there's anything that's better showing? I'm thinking maybe one of the white cats or Barkface's MCA Illusion ☄. *. ⋆ 02:08, 18 July 2023 (UTC)

I think barkface’s might work? You just want to pick one that clearly shows the difference between the main shading and depth. - arenzel 02:14, 18 July 2023 (UTC)

reuploaded, lemme know what y'all think Illusion ☄. *. ⋆ 00:49, 23 July 2023 (UTC)

You have some leaking shading on the haunch on your first layer. Vec I am Iron Man! 👾 02:00, 23 July 2023 (UTC)

Reupped in a different format, cause the infographic wasn't doing it for me anymore Illusion ☄. *. ⋆ 00:12, 24 July 2023 (UTC)

Two Toned (Patched) Cats - IllusionaryInfiltrator[]

Part of the issue with two-toned cats that include white is having adequate visible shading on the white and black. While I can see the shading on the white just fine, I recommend adding a new step to demonstrate how to add additional shading on the non-white parts. That's generally the advise we give, so I think the tutorial should include that. Vec I am Iron Man! 👾 20:13, 16 July 2023 (UTC)

I'm gonna be real, I don't think I know how to actually do that xD Illusion ☄. *. ⋆ 23:51, 16 July 2023 (UTC)

It mostly just means that you add extra shading to the black areas or lighten it in the white areas. This applies with any character with two different colors (like paler parts). You might have to adjust the placement a bit to effectively demonstrate. I usually see this in tuxedo like cats. Kinda like how you commented on my Blazefire image a while back with the shading? The shading opacities were consistent for my two shading layers, but I added an additional layer to add a tiny bit of depth in the areas you mentioned. That's the strategy that should be employed for two-toned cats. I hope this makes sense? Vec I am Iron Man! 👾 01:11, 18 July 2023 (UTC)

I'll work on this again this weekend when I have more time to devote but that did unlock some random hidden knowledge in my brain somehow, i love remembering things from the olden days Illusion ☄. *. ⋆ 02:13, 18 July 2023 (UTC)

Reupped changed the formatting since it kinda sucked lmao Illusion ☄. *. ⋆ 00:02, 24 July 2023 (UTC)

I'm not seeing much of your depth layer on the "And here's the blurred depth layer!" and forward (minus the third shading layer for the black patches - I can see that). Vec I am Iron Man! 👾 00:36, 24 July 2023 (UTC)

Not sure what you're meaning - would you like it defined more? Illusion ☄. *. ⋆ 00:41, 7/24/2023 00:41, 24 July 2023 (UTC)

Smudged shading - Star that Shimmers on Water[]

Proposed change to Apprentice Tutorial Layout[]

I put this on Discord but I wanted to put it here as well, in my Sandbox about a proposed tweak to how the tutorial page is laid out. It's nothing major, but I think it might make the tutorials flow better. Let me know your thoughts - I don't want to step on any toes, hence it existing in the sandbox. Illusion ☄. *. ⋆ 03:28, 23 July 2023 (UTC)

In my thinking, I also started thinking about how we could potentially remove the length from the page by using the tabs we use at the top of the Minor Characters pages, to navigate by book. We could break the tabs up into section by topic, such as programs, solid cats, patterns, tweaks, etc. Illusion ☄. *. ⋆ 00:18, 24 July 2023 (UTC)

I think it looks good, but I'd be curious as to what Max would say. Tabs aren't great for mobile view, so I'd preferred if we didn't use honestly. But we could reconsider it once the page starts to fill out some more Vec I am Iron Man! 👾 00:40, 24 July 2023 (UTC)

I'm willing to make a better mockup for it as well with some placeholder stuff from the tutorials I've done as well Illusion ☄. *. ⋆ 22:01, 7/24/2023 22:01, 24 July 2023 (UTC)
