Talk: Charart/Comment Clutter

Well, here's Hawkheart. I like him about as much as I like Thistleclaw. (I. Am. Not. A. Hawkheart. Fan.) Still, I thought he'd be fun to do. All character art is fun to do! Hawkheart was a bit of a challenge, which made it even more fun. Gotta go see the coverart for The Sign of the Moon (I saw it while I was uploading)! Yay! So, comments? Thanks, Nightfall. I know my Hawkheart doesn't look like Moonpelt's. I was thinking about how I was going to do Hawkheart for atleast four days. I really liked his/her style too, but I just can't smudge it in that cool way. I tried, but it looked horrific. I am not joking. I can't make it smudged without messing it up. Well if we're using yours, lets blur in the flecks some more please :) I can see a bit of sharp edges in some a little. This looks nice. I have two small suggestions: the ear pink is a little big and is almost falling out of his ear. And the highlight on the shoulder, as well as the spots could do with some more blending. Perhaps try using the smudge tool a little on the spots and then blending. Reuploaded. Fixed the earpink, blended the highlight, and smudged and blurred the spots. I kind of like this. :) But I was wondering if since he's supposed to be "flecked", maybe he should look more like Ashfur or Ferncloud? Oh, and before I save this, if I don't respond to any messages right away, that's just because I may not be able to get to the computer (what with the homeschooling, cats, computer, and heat!). Reuploaded. Sorry it's taken so long. I had the image with the suggested changes at that time ready a few days ago, but Wikia convinently closed off the uploading, and I couldn't get to it for a few days. The ear pink has been lightened, shrunk, and more defined. It looked better lighter than darker, so that's what I did. I may go back and change the ear pink so it's further in the ear, but I'm kinda busy right now. I added a few speckles to his tail, Willowheart. Guys, I blurred the hightlights and enlarged them. The problem is, whenever I reupload the image, the "current" image is the previous version before I reuploaded the new version. If you click on the image and look at the previous versions, you can see the version that's supposed to be the current version, but is listed as a previous version. The blue means blur, so basically, blur the highlights. The green means move, something that needs to be re-located, in this case three of the highlights. The purple is where their new locations should be. There only needs to be one tail highlight and it should be at the top, and move the face highlight up. The yellow means blurred lineart. That's all. Technically, a two-colored cat (i.e. ginger and white, brown and white, black and white, brown and black, etc.) can be one color pelt with the other color muzzle, paw, tail, etc., but it can also be with patches, so I think the patches are fine as they are. I think the ginger looks a tad bit brown, though, so saturatate the ginger some. The shading goes too much from dark gray to white without much transition between, so make the shading a bit smoother, and add some shading to the face as it looks kind of bland. The shading looks like a straight line across, make it look more to match the shape of the image and direction you want the light to come from. The highlights still don't look very blurred. Might I offer some tips? I'm assuming you use the same layer for shading/highlights and colour, so just lock the layer. (In the layer bar, there's an option that says lock: with a gray checker pattern square and check box beside it, check the box) then just go to Filters> Blur> Gaussian Blur and blur it however much you need to. It's best to take away ear pink and eye colour before doing so (if they're on the same layer) so they don't blur too. Mind you, this will blur the shading too but it works well. I think the only criticism I can find is that you should maybe decrease the furriness near the top of the haunch, since it looks like the black portion is sort of extending a little too far into the highlight. Give the stripes a blurring, and it looks as if you outlined the highlights with the shading. It should look more like the original kit photo. The ear pink is too light, and so is the main body color. The sripes also need a bit more work. There are no stripes on this back foot in the original, and the stripes on the tail are just lines, not like the letter 'y'. Check the normal photo and use that to help you. Is it just me who sees this whole dependence on other people to do all the work for you a little tiring? The list that I first created a long time ago was meant to be a means of pointing people in the right direction and eventually I had to delete my list because I got all sorts of grief over people expecting me to update it constantly rather than being able to look at it for guidance but being able to use their brains too... It's the same thing with this list. This project has fallen into a bad attitude of getting others to do all the hard work and wanting everything on a plate. Like Kitsu said, it's not too hard to check the list but then take a moment to see for yourself whether the image is already up for approval by someone else. It shouldn't be needed that astericks are put in just to make things simpler for some. That has no benefit to the project or the wiki as a whole. It shouldn't be down to people like yourself, Oblivion to have to clean up after others due to what can only be described as laziness or a lack of care and attention. Maybe it's no longer my place to say this kind of thing, but someone has to give the facts like they are. This is my view and I'm fairly sure that there are other people who agree with at least some of what I have said, even if they wouldn't have put it quite as bluntly. I'm very sure it was already decided that pelt colour changes mentioned in the book will get alternate images. If hundreds of characters have alternate images for different pelt colours, why should Sweetpaw be any different? I've seen some people try to decline images that would normally be totally fine. Just because we are debating alternate images for injuries doesn't mean that any alternate charart posted for changes in pelt colour should be declined outright. I dunno if I'm allowed to comment here, but I can stick it in Photoshop and redline the anatomy for the body if you'd like? If you'd rather I not, I'd suggest rounding the shoulders and smoothing out the back, like Shellheart said. Drop the head down and to the left a bit, right now it makes the front of the neck appear to long and the chest to big. Bring the hindquarters forward slightly to help with the back. I'm not really sure if this counts, but when I imagine a cat, or look at mine from a front angle, their faces always seem more triangular-ish, kind of wide near their ears and tapering down to their muzzle. Well with these, the face seems to jut out a bit near the left eye. Again I'm not sure if it counts, but it makes the face seem ... a bit blocky. Maybe you could narrow it down a bit more? Otherwise I think they look fantastic!

Blur the shading, and I have an issue with that stripe closest to his back leg. I looked at this "redline" Ivy gave to you and it's not nearly as curved on there. Fix it. In addition, the eyes should be a brighter green. oblivion^Audience? 00:19, December 19, 2011 (UTC)

Define the highlights on the face (and if you don't use highlights, then where the shading isn't). I'd put a patch of light on the back, it'll help lighten the color without having to change it. Sharpen the tips of the stripes. And Cinder was actually fine, she was asking a question about the image. Basically asking "Shouldn't this have more stripes?" and no Cinder, despite how it looks, the amount of stripes is fine. Actually, since the images are getting redone anyway, go ahead and redo this to match the new ones or it'll just go straight to the tweak list, and I know it's never fun to work so hard on an image and just have it redone immediately for reasons beyond your control. And, since you're near the month mark, go ahead and take an extra two weeks to finish. I hope I'm not stepping over the line, but it only seems fair.
