Chapter description[]
- Frostpaw paces restlessly in the ShadowClan medicine den, worried what might happen at the Moonpool when Splashtail arrives to supposedly receive his nine lives. Wanting to see for herself what might happen, Frostpaw asks Puddleshine to accompany her to the Moonpool. During their trek, Puddleshine asks about her previous vision, but Frostpaw still cannot make sense of its meaning. At the Moonpool, Puddleshine and Frostpaw hide underneath a hazel bush near the cliffside and waterfall and wait for Splashtail and Podlight to arrive.
- The two RiverClan toms arrive a few moments later. Podlight comments how Splashtail's newest siblings have arrived just on time, and Frostpaw speculates that Mothwing must have remained in camp to assist Havenpelt with the birth. Splashtail asks how long they should wait, but Podlight is unsure; the pair just plan on waiting and have no intention to communicate with StarClan. Splashtail and Podlight muse on what is supposed to happen. The medicine cat wonders if Mistystar or Leopardstar might come, though Splashtail scoffs that he will gladly kill Reedwhisker if he saw him again. The young leader goes on to question why StarClan has the power to choose leaders when the cats themselves can rule. As the two toms continue to joke about StarClan, Riverstar's spirit appears from the Moonpool and swirls around the two RiverClan cats before disappearing. Frostpaw realizes that Riverstar's message is clear: both Splashtail and Podlight are impostors. Back at ShadowClan's camp, Puddleshine alerts Tigerstar to what they witnessed.
