"It takes time for a Clan to lose faith in its leader, and I don't think any Clan has ever been without true leadership for as long as RiverClan has been now. Mistystar's death, and then Reedwhisker's death so soon afterwards, left no obvious cat to succeed to the leadership. And then for a while they were under the control of ShadowClan... Cats will cling to the belief that Splashtail will revive their Clan, because that is what they've wanted for so long. It's hard to reject that which you have dreamed of." |

Chapter description[]
- As Frostpaw applies marigold to Whistlepaw's deep shoulder wound, she gently chastises her friend for risking her life, though Whistlepaw insists that she had to rescue her sister. Frostpaw also thanks Whistlepaw for helping her after Splashtail attempted to kill her on the moor, even if it led to Whistlepaw getting punished. Kestrelflight arrives and apologizes again for doubting Frostpaw, and Harestar pokes his head in the medicine den and requests to speak with Frostpaw. Outside in the camp clearing, the storm has passed, and Harestar notes how they will rebuild the nursery using the fallen tree. He guides her to the top of the Tallrock where they overlook the lake and RiverClan's territory. Harestar notes how Frostpaw's vision was true, commenting how the storm was unusually strong, and it was odd that a tree threatened their camp. The WindClan leader concludes that Frostpaw must be telling the truth about Splashtail and agrees to help RiverClan overthrow Splashtail only if RiverClan decides to do so. However, Harestar is skeptical that RiverClan will want to challenge Splashtail after the leadership turmoil since Mistystar's death. Nightheart and Sunbeam call for Frostpaw that it is time for them to return home, and Featherpelt and Oatclaw thank Frostpaw for saving their kits. As they head back to ThunderClan, Frostpaw hopes that Mothwing, Icewing, and Duskfur will convince her Clanmates to revolt against Splashtail.
