| "RiverClan is not ours to control. With no more proof than Frostpaw's word, we would be putting our own will above RiverClan's wishes if we attacked Splashtail. That's what got Tigerstar into trouble and almost brought the Clans to war." |

Chapter description[]
- ThunderClan is preparing to leave the island. Nightheart reunites with Sunbeam, and asks her if she is angry that he left her and their Clan. Sunbeam says that although she missed her mate, she understood why he had to. She then tells Nightheart how well she is fitting into ThunderClan, and begins to talk about her trial with Spotfur's kits, but Ivypool interrupts them, and they cross the bridge with Wasp and Waffle.
- Upon returning to camp, Nightheart is happily greeted by his former mentor, Lilyheart. She alerts the rest of the Clan about his return. Thriftear, Cinderheart, Spotfur, and Bayshine also welcome Nightheart back, expressing their concerns for him and their faith that he would be safe. Bumblestripe interrupts the reunion when he asks about Wasp and Waffle. Thornclaw joins in on the hostility, expressing disdain about new mouths to feed. Brambleclaw then leaves the leader's den and greets Nightheart, and wants to hear all about his grandson's adventures, but Squirrelstar orders Nightheart to get well-needed rest. Nightheart and Sunbeam happily fall asleep together for the first time as full ThunderClan warriors.
- When he awakes, Nightheart is summoned by Ivypool to meet with her and Squirrelstar. Nightheart tells his leader and deputy about meeting the Cats of the Park, and how Frostpaw used her connection to StarClan, and her newly learned skill of meditation, to contact Riverstar and discover the crimes of Splashtail and Curlfeather. Squirrelstar asks Nightheart how much he trusts Frostpaw, and Nightheart says that he very much trusts her. Squirrelstar says that in her heart, she believes Nightheart, and wants to help, but as leader, stepping into another Clan's business without their wishes would be politically harmful to ThunderClan. Ivypool points out the danger of RiverClan's evil spreading across the lake, and Squirrelstar replies that RiverClan's problems are their own to fix, and that even though she does want to help, she cannot help a Clan that doesn't believe Frostpaw's word. She then says that Splashtail's plan will fall apart if he is rejected by StarClan. Ivypool protests, reminding Squirrelstar of how the first Tigerstar and Brokenstar got their lives, and that Splashtail could always lie about receiving lives like Nightstar of ShadowClan did. Ivypool is upset at Squirrelstar not helping; and although Nightheart understands his leader's thinking, he still believes that she underestimates Splashtail's danger.
- Nightheart apologizes for bringing in outsiders, but Squirrelstar accepts it, and calls a Clan meeting. She formerly welcomes Nightheart home, and tells ThunderClan that Waffle and Wasp will stay as guests while they decide whether to train as ThunderClan warriors, as they originally wished to join RiverClan. The park cats worry about their lack of connection with ThunderClan, as they had heard countless stories of Riverstar and his Clan.
- Nightheart says that Thunderstar was a good leader as well, and Brambleclaw adds how he founded ThunderClan with his principles of nobility and fighting for the right thing. Jayfeather recounts the story of the first battle and how the StarClan ordered the fighting cats to divide into Clans. Mousewhisker mentions how great of a leader Firestar was, and Squirrelstar adds how Brambleclaw was a good leader too, and his bravery during Ashfur's reign. Sparkpelt then brings the subject back to Firestar, and how he led the Clans in the Great Battle, and how he defeated the Dark Forest. Birchfall adds how Firestar helped lead the Clans to the Lake during the Great Journey, and Brackenfur recounts Firestar's restoration of SkyClan. The stories make Waffle excited to learn more about ThunderClan, but Wasp is still shy and nervous. Squirrelstar ends the meeting by telling Nightheart that he is responsible for Waffle and Wasp being fed and trained.
