Chapter description[]
- Sunbeam realizes that the she-cat speaking is her mother, Berryheart, and notes that she appears healthy. She notices that Sparrowtail and Hollowspring have also joined RiverClan; Hollowspring appears embarrassed by Berryheart, while Sparrowtail is unreadable. Frostpaw leads Nightheart and Sunbeam away from the camp, and Sunbeam tries to control her emotions while Nightheart comforts her. She expresses horror that her kin are working for Splashtail, and Nightheart reminds her that they saw Berryheart meeting with Splashtail when she wanted to depose Tigerstar. Sunbeam starts to blame herself for not meeting with her kin to take them to Alderheart and Jayfeather, but Nightheart assures her that she is not at fault. She says that Sparrowtail likely saw Splashtail as their only hope. Frostpaw offers sympathy, but pulls their attention back to Splashtail's threat to find and kill Mothwing, Duskfur, and Icewing. She says that the cats who left can help rally the other Clans against Splashtail, and that they must warn them. As Sunbeam agrees, they hear a voice from the camp addressing Splashtail, and Frostpaw says that they need to listen.
