Chapter description[]
- The attacking cats burst into ShadowClan camp. Marmalade calls out for Boulder and Red, but the ShadowClan warriors quickly burst into action. Yellowfang joins the battle, but Pixie grabs her shoulders and forces her to face the white she-cat. Yellowfang is stunned momentarily but pins the kittypet onto the ground. She demands Pixie tell her why they are attacking, and the kittypet tells her that ShadowClan has stolen their friends. Pixie removes herself from under Yellowfang's paws and runs back into the crowd of fighting cats. Yellowfang watches as her Clanmates wrestle with the attackers and spots Nutwhisker shocked at the kittypets' strength. A Rangy tabby tom reminds the Clan cat that they are not all kittypets. Yellowfang joins her littermate, and the rogue flees. Two more enemy cats separate Yellowfang and Nutwhisker until Raggedpelt runs them off and saves his friends. The tom asks why these cats are attacking ShadowClan camp, and Yellowfang tells him they are looking for Russetpaw and Boulder. The three cats notice a commotion near the other side of camp and witness a group of Twolegplace cats attacking the nursery. They attack the cats mindlessly until they run away from the den's entrance. Marmalade sneaks up on Yellowfang and deals a blow on her shoulder. The two cats wrestle each other while the ginger tom tells her they have no right to keep Russetpaw and Boulder hostage. The gray warrior reminds him they came of their own volition, but the tom doesn't hear her. She breaks from Marmalade's grasp and attempts to find Cedarstar. To his disbelief, she tells the leader why the cats are fighting. Maramalde continues to accuse the ShadowClan cats of harboring the two newest ShadowClan apprentices, and Cedarstar sends Yellowfang off to find Russetpaw and Boulder.
- Yellowfang runs through the attacking cats toward the tunnel Russetpaw's and Boulder's patrol would return from. She feels the pain of her Clanmates washes over her body but tries to push through it. On her search, she finds Raggedpelt, Featherstorm, and Hal in a standoff. Raggedpelt accuses his mother of hiding the truth about his father from him and scolds Hal for not telling him of his heritage when they first met. Hal shrugs the top off, and Raggedpelt admits that his Clanmate's teasing is all true. Yellowfang jumps into the conversation and reminds him that he is still a ShadowClan warrior. The dark brown tabby shoos her off, and Hal continues to taunt his son. Raggedpelt grows furious and slashes the tom's throat, and his body falls limp. Yellowfang watches in horror, and the tom admits he is a useless kittypet.
- Russetpaw and Boulder find Yellowfang, Featherstorm, and Raggedpelt. Yellowfang informs them of what is happening at camp, but Russetpaw finds Hal's lifeless body underneath Raggedpelt's paws. She looks horrified, and the tabby tom tells her that he tried to attack Yellowfang. Boulder tries to remind him that killing cats was against the warrior code, and Raggedpelt informs the apprentice that Hal wasn't associated with the warrior code in the first place. He commands the cats to return to camp and join the battle. Russetpaw stands over Hal's body and confides in Yellowfang, telling her he is her father.
- The cats return to camp, and Cedarstar announces their arrival. Russetpaw and Boulder look over the camp and find multiple wounded Clan and Twolegplace cats. The two new ShadowClan apprentices confirm to their old friend Marmalade that they've decided to stay with ShadowClan permanently. The ginger tom asks why they have decided to live with wild cats and that Hal planned the attack in the first place. Russetpaw admits her father is dead, and Raggedpelt tells the camp the previous lie. Cedarstar calmly tells the invaders to leave and warns them not to come back. Russetpaw and Boulder mourn with their old friends, and Yellowfang watches Raggedpelt walk away from the scene.
